McDonalds Sells Stale Apple Pies

I bought 2 apple pies and a large sweet tea (no lemon) off the McDonalds Dollar Menu. Well, I bit into one of my apple pies and it tasted terrible! I chewed and chewed and chewed and chewed my lukewarm apple pie until I couldn't take any more. I am looking at the pie wondering what in the world could be the problem.

Well, I notice the freshness date on the apple pie is over 2 hours in the past! Take a look at my receipt. It shows 10:58am while the pies are good for use until 8:38am! What a freaking ripoff! A dollar wasted and disappointed tastebuds! I had already pulled onto the highway so no way I was going to take the pies back and waste even more in gas than what the pies cost.

Be careful when you get food from these fast food places! Your food could be old!

I am totally disgusted with McDonalds and these pies. Maybe it is the Maryand McDonalds, but they just can't seem to ever have pies or the pies they do have are lukewarm/cold! I waste a dollar every time I order 2 apple pies and I'm about to just stop ordering them completely. And the time listed on the box is ALWAYS more than a few hours past. I don't know if that time represents the cook time or the time they should have been thrown away.

But does anyone know how long after they bake the pie that they are allowed to sell it? I bought a custard "holiday" pie just now and it was luke warm and the custard on top was yellowed. I looked at the expire time, and it said 6pm. It obviously wasn't fresh from the oven, so is the expiration more than 3hrs? I wanted to complain, but I just ate it anyway. Hope I don't get sick. Could it be that this McDonald's just puts a later sell-by time on it? Anyone know the McDonald's standard?

If those pies are still good after sitting out for a day, I'm not sure I want to eat them anymore. It would take an awesome amount of chemicals and preservatives to keep them from spoiling without being refrigerated. That can't be good.

I would see this as more of a local franchise issue rather than a corporate problem. In general I've never run into any freshness issues when visiting McDonald's. I'm not a great fan of their restaurants and rarely go but I've never run into an issue when I do.

Wow, I never looked at the date and time either until I read this post. Now I see it on my two apple pies clear as day, but mine are fresh. Why in the hell would the employees give you pies that are CLEARLY marked and are CLEARLY past the current time. That is bad on their employees at that franchise.

The only problem I have with my local McDonald's is that they don't always have fresh fries. I don't care what the time allowed is, their fries are only good when fresh out of the fryer. I won't eat them if they've sat and have requested fresh ones more than once. At least they're good about getting you what you want when you ask though.

I never thought to look at the time on the apple pies. They are usually so good at our Mickey D's. My son loves them and I enjoy them now, too. I have to remember to look next time. Thanks for pointing that out.

Are the McDonalds baked apple pies good for you? They used to have those fried ones that looked like egg rolls. I have had the new baked ones and they taste better. However, they are always cold or lukewarm when I buy them. The date and time is printed right there on the package but they don't read it.

I am seeing this more and more at McDonald's. The people at the registers hand out the apple pies without even looking at the times they have stamped on them. Including the time on the pies is an excellent idea. Now McDonald's has to find people who will actually read the times before handing out their baked apple pies!

Crap! Purchased 2 apple pies today and both of them were stuck to the box! Glued to the box by old, dried up apple sauce! Guess they didn't want to really be at work on Mother's Day but that is still not an excuse for serving apple pies that exploded during the baking process!
